Positive displacement pumps come in two main categories: rotary pumps and reciprocating pumps. Rotary pumps are typically smaller pump models and are able to transport viscous liquids by circularly moving the liquids and smoothly discharging them away from the pump. In contrast, reciprocating pumps are able to discharge high-pressure fluids in small quantities and work by propelling the fluid forward utilizing a mobile component. The fluid is only released when that same mobile component moves or "pulsates."
